United Way month proclaimed in North Battleford

Earlier this week North Battleford proclaimed October as United Way month. Tuesday morning Mayor of the city Ryan Bater raised the United Way flag at City Hall.

Events Campaign Coordinator Rose Silzer-Quinn says each year the Battlefords United Way designates a campaign month and traditionally it is October.

“We ask the City of North Battleford to proclaim it as United Way month to make it official and to also to bring greater recognition to the United Way and to the brand. Also, what does United Way mean, what does it stand for, and how does it benefit the community.”

This is the 49th year the organization has been operating in the Battlefords. Silzer-Quinn says their primary goal is giving back to other organizations who make a difference in the community.

“We support non-profit organizations who have programming in place. We support them with funding once they apply for funding to us and we support them financially so that they can continue to run their programming. The only way that we have money is through fundraising events and through our campaign month.”

Throughout October the organization will hold various fundraising events including Coffee on the Run on the 19th.
