A state of the art project room to develop the new wastewater treatment plant has been presented to city council.
The Integrated Project Delivery(IPD) room, also being referred to as a “Big Room” would be used to bring the wastewater treatment plant into design phases.
Mayor Gerald Aalbers says that IPD has never been undertaken by Lloydminster, but Red Deer and organizations within it saw success using it.
“I was at a meeting at AUMA in late September with council members, it was presented at the convention, an entire hour-long presentation about where they see value in this.”
The new room, if approved by city council, would be put into an empty room in the city’s operation centre. The space would require key upgrades including internet speeds of 200Mb for 3D printing projects, smart boards for collaboration and space for 30 workers among other maintenance priorities.
The overall projected cost for the upgrade would just over 78 thousand dollars, which would come from the $9 million the city has put towards the wastewater treatment facility.
Mayor Gerald Aalbers maintains that money will not be spent on the actual wastewater project until the full $80 million in funding comes through.
“I can guarantee the taxpayers that the project will not move forward if the monies aren’t there. So what we’re looking at doing is preemptive work within the monies that we have. It’s value that will stay with the building. The OP centre will be there a long time, these are the enhancements it needs to be more functional.”
The IPD room will be proposed for approval at a later council meeting.
