Bonnyville Students To Get iPads In French Class

Schools in Bonnyville are getting iPads to boost their French language skills. Yesterday, the Province of Saskatchewan announced $65,000 in grants for French education in three school districts. While the other districts get more teacher support and a renewed curriculum, students in the Northern Lights School Division will receive $14,000 in iPads, meant to increase student achievement to the level of French Immersion schools in the province. This is the first year school divisions will receive complementary funding for French instruction.
The grant has been awarded to the following divisions:
– Light of Christ Catholic School Division will receive $31,120 for The Effective Foundations for Language Achievement project.  The project focuses on improving student achievement and the development of teacher supports in oral language competency, reading and writing.
– Prairie South School Division will receive $20,181 for The Rigorous Curriculum Design and French Authentic Performance Tasks.  The project focuses on working through the renewed French Immersion curriculum while utilizing the Rigorous Curriculum Design process.
– Northern Lights School Division will receive $14,000 for The Technology Upgrade to purchase iPads for their students to increase achievement in French to match the rest of the French Immersion schools in Saskatchewan.
