UPDATE: Loon Lake RCMP investigating firearm discharge resulting in injury

UPDATE: RCMP says Kyla Cheechanow turned herself in on December 24. She will appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on December 27.

At around 11 p.m. on December 22, Meadow Lake RCMP was advised that an adult male had arrived at the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The initial investigation determined that the shooting had occurred at a residence in the community of Loon Lake.

Loon Lake RCMP subsequently took over the investigation and have now charged 18-year-old Kyla Cheenanow of the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation with careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm while not authorized and failure to comply with undertaking.

Loon Lake RCMP continue their efforts to locate Cheenanow. Anyone with information as to her whereabouts is asked to contact Loon Lake RCMP at 306-837-2440 or submit a tip anonymously to Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online atwww.saskcrimestoppers.com.

The 29-year-old victim has since been released from hospital.

This investigation remains ongoing. Loon Lake RCMP are being assisted by Battlefords General Investigation Section (GIS), Battlefords Forensic Identification Section (FIS).
