Lloydminster’s unemployment rates have risen to become equal on both sides of the border. Both regions ended 2018 at 7 per cent, according to Statistics Canada.
Unemployment for the region of Prince Albert and Northern Saskatchewan rose .6 per cent from 6.4, sitting .2 per cent higher than one year ago.
Camrose – Drumheller’s unemployment rate continued an upward trend, rising only .1 per cent from 6.9 and finishing a whole per cent higher than the end of 2017.
The Alberta side’s rate continues to be higher than the provincial rate of unemployment which ended the year at 6.4 per cent.
The rate for Prince Albert and Northern Saskatchewan rose sits nearly 2 per cent higher than the province’s rate of 5.6 per cent.
Statistics Canada says gains in part-time work were outweighed by the loss of full-time jobs in Alberta, while in Saskatchewan job growth was led by agriculture.
Both of the city’s unemployment rates sit 1.4 per cent higher than the national average of 5.6 per cent, which Statistics Canada calls a 43-year low.
