Walk of Remembrance set for September

The Walking Through Grief Society is gearing up for their biggest event of the year.

The group is organizing the fifth annual Walk of Remembrance on Saturday, September 12, in honour of people lost to suicide.

Shirley Scott Co-Director of the Walking Through Grief Society says the walk is meant to raise awareness.

“This walk was initiated to coincide with the World Suicide Prevention Day, which is on the 10th of September,” Scott said. “Regionally, we invite people to come and share on the 12th [of September], in a walk of remembering those that have died by suicide to honour their memories, and to reduce the stigma around suicide. Also, to give some mental health awareness to mental health issues, and how that impacts suicide.”

The event will start at 3 p.m, in Bud Miller Park. The walk will be followed by food, music, and a chance to share at an open mic about loved ones lost to suicide.
