Cat Brewery returning to 4th Meridian

A popular event is returning to 4th Meridian Brewing Company to introduce felines to some friends. Cat Brewery is coming back on March 14 with some sociable cats from the Lloydminster & District SPCA.

The event was first held last March to showcase some of the SPCA’s adoptable cats. Last year’s event brought a number of cats to mingle with denizens of 4th Meridian Brewing Co.’s taproom. Becca Lawrence, community outreach manager at the Lloydminster & District SPCA, says the event is a fun way to show off who’s ready for adoption.

“We take a few of our more social cats there that like to hang out and visit and aren’t too worried about larger crowds. Everyone just kind of hangs around and has a couple of beverages and hangs out with some kitties, and hopefully, find homes for them,” says Lawrence. She adds that those who consumed a few too many are monitored so they aren’t surprised the next day.

“For the most part, if we notice they’ve had a few more than a few, typically we’ll look at hanging onto them until the next day to make sure they’ll actually want to go through the adoption.” It’s more or less to get them seen, and if we find homes for them, perfect!”

Lawrence says she knows that one was taken home the next day last year. According to the brewery, the event may happen more often. Brad Hoffman, co-owner of 4th meridian Brewing Co., says the last event was a great success. Depending on how this one goes Hoffman would consider having the event two, three or even four times a year.

“We’d like to do it two or three times a year if we could. We’ll see how this next time goes out and go from there. Quarterly would be great, twice would be awesome,” says Hoffman.

The event also helps fundraise for the SPCA. Last year the event raised $800 in donations. Minors are welcome if accompanied by an adult, and it runs from 5 to 9 p.m.
