The City of Lloydminster is reportedly working on bringing transit to low-income residents of the city.
The Meridian Booster reports that city administration is reviewing a Transportation Assistance Pilot Program, which would provide subsidized taxi service to low-income residents.
Colleen Young, Saskatchewan MLA for Lloydminster, said that the city has reached out to both provinces, and that the program would be similar to Discounted Bus Pass Services currently operating in other Saskatchewan cities.
“It was to provide residents of Lloydminster with a subsidized transportation service,” Young said. “They were working with a taxi service, that would provide this service, as a discount to assist low income individuals in the community for transportation.”
Chris McQuid, Lloydminster city councilor, says council has not heard of the pilot since asking administration to review the project in April.
“It’s a delay at the administration end, not the council end,” said McQuid. “They must still be working on details if it hasn’t come back to us for review yet.”
City administration has not provided further details on the project.
