The Lloydminster Community Youth Centre has received funds from 100 Men Lloydminster to go towards its meal program. The 100 Men club consists of community members who donate to non-profit organizations in and around the city.
On March 5th the club closed out their fourth year with presentations from both the youth centre and the Slim Thorpe recovery Centre, who was looking to secure funding for gym equipment upgrades. Co-founder Rob Anderson says it is difficult to choose between non-profits as they all have significant needs to be met.
“What we do is when we hold our meetings everyone brings $100 cash or cheque and then we collect the ones that night, everyone votes for the recipient group,” Anderson adds the next couple of weeks will be focused on collecting donations from members who could not attend the meeting. He says $3,700 in donations was collected for the youth centre during the March meeting.
“It’s an opportunity for the groups to come to us and say we can use the money for this particular project or this idea,” Anderson says the idea of 100 Men Club is to help several organizations instead of just one.
The club holds meetings every three months to help non-profits in need. Although membership has dwindled due to the economy, Anderson says in the past four years the club has donated $100,420.00 to not-for-profit groups.
“The numbers aren’t what they used to be, that being said we are proud to reach that mark. It shows the idea that we had when we started does have momentum and does have some traction and we’re looking to add to that going forward.”
The Lloydminster Youth Centre received visits from over 400 Youths ages 12-18 in 2018. The centre offers daily activities and served 5000 hot meals to youth last year.
