Three stolen cars recovered, two Frog Lake men receive multiple charges

A stolen Lloydminster vehicle was one of three recovered after two Frog Lake men wanted for armed robbery were arrested and charged.

On Tuesday, EADRCRU began a chase with a vehicle that had been stolen a couple of days prior after an armed robbery in Frog Lake. In attempts to stop the vehicle, RCMP followed the driver to several locations where a second person was waiting with another stolen vehicle.

After securing the area RCMP had chased both vehicles after they split up.  One of the vehicles was stopped in a field by officers and the driver was caught by a police dog. The other vehicle was stopped after a spike strip was launched along Highway 897. The driver was arrested by police after running from the SUV into a house. A female was also arrested after trying to stop RCMP from arresting the SUV driver.

The men were arrested and charged after a joint effort between three RCMP detachments, RCMP Air Services, and the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit.

36-year-old Albert Smith from Frog Lake received multiple charges including Flight from police and was also being sought out by police for multiple charges stemming from a robbery on March 29.

A 17-year-old male from Frog Lake was also charged with multiple offences, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The young man was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Elk Point for multiple charges including discharging a firearm causing bodily harm and was also pursued by police for multiple charges stemming from a robbery on March 29.

 Albert Smith had a first court appearance on April 4 in St Paul and the 17-year-old is scheduled to appear in court in St Paul on April 11, 2019. A 34-year-old female from Frog Lake is being charged with obstructing a peace officer in relation to this incident and was released on a Promise to Appear with court scheduled for May 23, 2019, in St Paul.
