The Lloydminster Bobcats Head Coach Nigel Dube says a few players from last weeks spring camp will be donning a bobcat on their chest in a couple of months.
“We wanted guys to come to see [the camp], be a part of [the camp] and have a discussion after of “does this fit you?” and “does this fit us”.”
The Bobcats invited 65 prospects to the camp at the Civic Centre last weekend after months of meeting with coaches, families and evaluating the player’s skills and attitude on and off the ice. Dube says himself and the staff spent countless hours finding the best situation for the organization moving forward.
“We showcased our city, our community, our program to future players that will be coming back next year or the year after that are younger now but are into our system now and getting used to what we’re about.”
“Families were really happy with the community and with the fact, there were fans out and people to talk to as well,” Dube says the Organization met with families during the four-day camp to inform them about what Lloydminster has to offer.
Some players will be invited back to a Top-40 camp on June 1 and 2. Dube says he told his staff that the camp marked the first chapter of their book. He says the organization will continue to put the necessary plan in place to help the future of the team.
“We have the select pieces coming back from this year’s roster, but the recruits that we bring in and how we go about our day to day, how we handle ourselves as a staff and the professionalism that we need to have, is on us.”
