UPDATE: Town, RM of Biggar declare state of emergency

UPDATE: Due to smoke and poor air quality, the R.M. of Biggar #347 and the town of Biggar have declared a State of Emergency. Emergency services ask citizens to avoid Highway 51, Triumph Road and surrounding areas until further notice.


Biggar RCMP members are currently on the scene of an out-of-control grass fire southwest of Biggar in the area between highways 4 and 51, and Tower and Duperow Roads.

The RCMP is helping with evacuating the area as well as controlling traffic. Members of the public are asked to avoid the fire zone completely. If you are trying to leave the area, please obey instructions from all police officers and emergency responders and exercise caution. Fire crews are on scene trying to control and extinguish the fire.
