From May 12 until May 20 was National Impaired Driving Week. The Battlefords RCMP took part with a week-long enforcement campaign to draw attention to impaired driving. Two SGI check stops were done at peak times in the Battlefords area with more than 500 vehicles stopped and checks made on drivers. As a result, 207 charges were laid under the Criminal Code and Traffic Safety Act.
Fourteen investigations into impaired driving led to two impaired driving charges and a number of driving suspensions. An additional 4 charges for other driving offences were laid under the criminal code. The remaining 199 charges were laid under the Traffic Safety Act with the majority for speeding and distracted driving. In a statement, Mounties say they remain committed to ensuring safe roadways and working with all partner agencies on enforcement and education initiatives.
