Big Brothers Big Sisters raise funds after truck vandalised

Big Brother Big Sisters Lloydminster is raising funds after their truck was broken into last week. After an alleged theft attempt, the organization’s alternative means of transportation was written off last Thursday due to the damages done.

“It gives another three or four spots and quite often that would help instead two trips with our van,”  Executive Director Brenda Robinson says the non-profit is scrambling to find a replacement with Summer programs around the corner.

The truck was also used to help with fundraisings such as recycling and barbeques. Robinson says staff and volunteers have been generous enough to lend their vehicles out in order for the organization to complete certain tasks.

“You can’t have the expectation that staff will fulfill the responsibilities, that’s not in their job description. I would hope by  mid-July to have this all taken care of.”

After a week of looking for parts, Robinson says she was forced to write off the truck due to the damage to the steering column which couldn’t be replaced. Big Brother Big Sisters is halfway to their fundraising goal after the support from the community.

“The community always rallies which is absolutely fantastic given the economic times we have had. It’s been tough and people still find it in their hearts to give.”

Anyone looking to donate funds to Big Brothers Big Sister can do so online, by mail or in person.
