‘A huge thing for the city as a whole’: Bobcats GM looks forward to Boundary Battle of Alberta

Lloydminster Bobcats head coach and GM Nigel Dube looks forward to the upcoming Boundary Battle of Alberta. The fundraiser is set to bring alumni from the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames to face off in the Border City at the Centennial Civic Centre in September. Dube sees the upcoming battle as something truly special for the city.

“I think it’s a huge thing for the city as a whole and what Boundary Ford has done to put it on. Anytime a hockey situation of two legendary teams in Alberta can have an event like that, I think it’s pretty special for the community,” says Dube.

Boundary Ford’s sponsorship allows for all funds raised by the event to support the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation. The LRHF is earmarking the funds for a new mental health program through Project Sunrise, aiming to benefit the mental health of young athletes. The event sold out within hours of being announced.

The game is set to leave a mark on the community, and those part of it, for the better. Dube thinks it’s a huge opportunity for the Bobcats to see the long-term benefits of hockey and the relationships built from being on a team.

“With all these players, the alumni from several years ago, coming back for a game like this, you can see the family and the bond that hockey gives players. The fun they have with it too, I think will inspire our guys to play the game for the right reason and be a part of it, and want to get to that level that these guys were at.”

While it’s not yet clear who will be coming for the game. Boundary Ford says that both teams are on board for the event coming this fall.
