The last two months have been excessively wet in Lloydminster this year. The Border City exceeded the average rainfall of 70 millimetres in July, coming in at 120 millimetres.
Following the dryest spring the City has seen, Lloydminster kicked off the summer accumulating 107 millimetres in June, which ranked as the sixteenth wettest June on record. Kyle Fougere, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, says the last two month won’t break any records but sticks to the trend of being one of the wettest months of the year.
“So much of it comes down to the thunderstorms in the Lloydminster area. A lot of times the thunderstorms form on the foothills of Alberta and move East and whether or not they hit the Lloydminster region determines how much they will get for that month.”
The last time the area recorded average precipitation was between 2014 to 2017. For those dreading the rain over the past couple months, Fourgere says residents might feel relieved in August.
“In August we average 55 millimetres. Even if Lloydminster ended up with 50 to 60 millimetres in August that will be half of what they had in July so I am sure it will seem like a much dryer month.”
The forecast for the rest of the week is expected to be warm with a forecast high of 20 to 23 degrees starting on Saturday.
