A 47-year-old Lloydminster truck driver was arrested by Boyle RCMP this weekend during a checkstop. Police enabled a new breathalyzer law that came into effect on December 18, 2018, which allows officers to request a screening whether they believe the person is too drunk to be behind the wheel or not.
Police says the male failed an Approved Screening Device during the stop on Highway 831 at Highway 663 in the village on Sunday. RCMP received two breath samples from the truck driver with the blood alcohol results coming in at 140mg%, which is almost half the 80 mg% limit.
The 47-year-old was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, and impaired operation of the vehicle over 80 mg% and will appear in Boyle Provincial Court on September 24. The driver’s license was immediately suspended for three days under the Alberta Administrative Licence Suspension program.
