Officers in Lloydminster and across Alberta will be watching for distracted drivers in August. During the month, RCMP says they’re cracking down on the driving violation.
“We remind Albertans that distracted driving can severely limit a driver’s ability to focus on driving and road conditions,” says Superintendent Rick Gardner, Alberta Traffic Sheriffs. “Make sure to always put electronics away and to be prepared for unexpected actions of other road users and changing driving conditions such as construction.”
RCMP says just over 5,000 tickets have been issued since the beginning of 2019 for Alberta. Drivers are encouraged to put anything down that may distract them from the road.
RCMP is encouraging drivers to ensure traffic safety by following road signage during the constructions season, wearing protective equipment when on a motorcycle or bicycle.
During last year’s August long weekend, eight Albertans were killed and 39 people hurt in crashes across the province.
