Investor’s Group plans food drive for The Olive Tree

The Lloydminster office of the Investor’s Group is holding a fundraiser for The Olive Tree.

The financial group will be setting up collection barrels at the Bandits’ home opener on Saturday, looking for non-perishable foods and cash donations for the Olive Tree’s food bank.

Consultant Gwen Bodnar says the situation at The Olive Tree is pretty desperate.

“The day that I contacted the Olive Tree to organize this initiative that we’re taking part in, she was sitting there looking at her shelves at that day, wondering who she could call,” Bodnar said. “It certainly is a demanding time. We feel it much locally, I think, with the economy that’s happening around our community.”

Bodnar also says that while the charity will take all donations, they are looking for certain items.

“Obviously they’ll accept any non-perishables, but some of the items they said they’re especially in need of – canned soup, pickles, minute rice, canned fruit, canned beans (all varieties), pasta sauces, tomato sauces, syrups, pancake mix, Kraft Dinner, Cheez Whiz, and soup crackers.”

Bodnar also says any donations above $25 will get a tax receipt from the Olive Tree by the end of the year.

The Bandits will face the Vermilion Tigers in their home opener, at 8 p.m in the Civic Centre.
