City to hold first ever Harvest Festival

The City of Lloydminster is partnering with The Root for a Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 3.

The Festival will start in Bud Miller Park at 12 p.m, and will feature family-friendly activities, including live music by The Prairie Dogs, a hay maze, a bouncy castle, a magic show, and more.

The celebration will move over to 49th street in front of The Root at 5 p.m, and will include more live music from local musicians Jordan Pollard and Rufy Heron, the unveiling of Lloydminster’s outdoor pianos, and The Root’s lantern walk around the downtown core.

The restaurant has been running the event for four years, and owner Amanda Amandrud says it serves as a time of reflection.

“What it is, is and opportunity for us to get together,” Amandrud said. “It used to fall on Thanksgiving weekend, and it was a moment for us to stop, and be grateful for the life we have. It was reflective of harvest. [As a] farm kid, growing up out of town, it was always a big time, that celebration when harvest was finished. So this is a reflection of the end of harvest, and all the work’s done, so let’s get together and celebrate.”

Amandrud also says she’s grateful that the city is partnering with her to market the walk to a new audience.

The walk will kick off at 7 p.m, and Amandrud says she asks people participating to bring a light source. Admission to the festival is free.
