A new report by Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Lloydminster breaks down the funding of the programs and services offered by the non-profit organizations of the area.
The 2018 Social Programs and Services Report shows over $500,000 in grants given to local non-profit community organization programs and services.
Manager of Social Programs and Services Patrick Lancaster says the report is a good way for people to find out about the services offered by non-profits in the city.
“The report highlights a lot of things going on in the city to support residents both through our department and the many not for profits that are providing a real range of quality services, be it through recreation or social supports. “
The report showed an increase of 32 inquiries from residents asking about the general community, seniors, poverty, transportation and housing services.
“When people get the report people are often surprised at the services that are offered in the community and they’re often surprised by the number of people are accessing those services or the scope those services encompass.”
One program funded by the FCSS is the Block Party which saw bookings tripled from the previous year with 2,804 attendees in 2018. Lancaster says they launched a new marketing strategy for the program which was successful.
“In 2018 moving into 2019 we definitely put more effort into promoting that program and saw significant growth in the uptake of the community. Both in 2018 and 2019 we’ve seen those numbers grow.”
Lancaster says the report will go to the FCSS advisory committee who will use it to distribute funding for the coming years.
“This is the group that reviews grant applications for FCSS and Saskatchewan Lotteries and it’s roughly $500,000 in grants that go out to non-profits. They’ll look at this report and use some of the numbers and information to inform their funding on applications going forward into 2020.”
