A North Battleford business received pre-approval for a cannabis cultivation facility and is now looking for funding. Envirosafe Chemicals Canada was pre-approved to build a cannabis cultivation and processing facility by Health Canada on September 11.
“The green light to build is a very exciting moment for us,” says James Davey, the president and CEO of Envirosafe.
Envirosafe is now securing funding for a 30,000 square foot facility located in the Parson Industrial area of North Battleford. Once the facility is finished construction, it will have to go through final inspection and meet all the requirements of the Cannabis Regulations to receive the cannabis license.
“Our crop will go in the ground in the spring and we should be [cultivating] our first crop in the middle of summer,” Davey says.
The company also received a license to process industrial hemp on August 23. Envirosafe can process and manufacture products from locally grown industrial hemp. The new hemp processing facility will be an expansion on the current Envirosafe building on Thatcher Avenue.
The facility will extract pure cannabidiol (CBD) and refine it into consumer-grade CBD oil which can be infused into different products. Davey says the CBD oil will be used for medicinal purposes, cannabis and CBD extract as well as edibles in the near future.
“From anyone dealing from sore backs to possible cancer scenarios, we will have the oil for them.”
Davey expects the hemp processing facility to create 36 jobs in the city and up to 100 jobs when both projects are complete.
According to Davey, the environment chemical company has diversified and entered into the cannabis industry four years ago. Envirosafe received a cannabis retail license and sold it to Fire & Flower Cannabis Company. Davey expects to continue to work with the retailer in the future.
