PNHR gearing up for flu season

The Prairie North Regional Health Authority is bringing back its flu clinics.

Flu immunization clinics organized by the health authority begin Monday, October 19, in communities across the region, and will run until the end of March 2016. Flu shots are available free of charge to everyone six months and older–and needle-free immunization will be available for children, via nasal spray, in flu clinics as of mid-November.

“Last year we had a very successful flu campaign. We went to events like Trade Shows, hockey games and a few schools to offer the vaccine and in the end, more clients were immunized compared with previous years,” said  Karrie Hammond-Collins, Manager of Public Health Services for PNHR. “Because of last year’s success we will be running a similar flu campaign this year and look forward to seeing even more community members at our clinics.”

Influenza is caused by a virus and spreads very easily between people through sneezing, coughing, and talking. Young children, pregnant women, and older adults with medicial conditions are more susceptible to complications resulting from the flu.
