Unity High School Football team to wear green socks

Unity Composite High School is going to wear green on Thursday to raise awareness for mental health.

The Warriors Football team will be playing the Kindersley Kobras at the under the light game at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds from the game will go towards a mental health foundation. Kyle Clark, Assistant Coach, says the Warriors will be wearing green socks.

“We had a personal connection to a former player who had suffered from mental health, [he] had taken his own life. He had played in this program about 10 years ago, maybe 5. It was proposed to us last year that we could do some fundraising for mental health and we were on board for doing that.”

This will be the second year the team will be raising money for mental health. Last year, they had outstanding support from the community. Clark believes with each year that passes mental health awareness is becoming more relevant.

“On Thursday, we’ll be doing a mental health appreciation day and kids are encouraged to wear green; and there will be some kind of information around the school about mental health and how to seek treatment if your suffering, what are signs and symptoms and what facilities are available in our community.”

This will be the last game for both the Warriors and Kobras in the seasons. Both teams are currently undefeated making this the League Championship game.
