Province investigates high copper, lead levels in water at North Battleford hospital

An investigation is being launched into the water quality of Saskatchewan hospital in North Battleford.

The Ministry of Central Services says recent water testing has shown high levels of copper or lead in the water.

“There is no immediate health risk and no health advisory has been issued. Out of an abundance of caution and with the health of patients and staff at the forefront, immediate steps have been taken to ensure potable water is available,” says Deputy Minister Mike Carr.

The ministry says the issue does not originate from the City of North Battleford’s water supply. They advise patients and visitors not to drink water from taps, fountains and sinks while visiting the hospital.

“This is a priority and every effort is being made to minimize the amount of time this situation impacts patients and staff.”

The issue comes months after the roof being replaced due to water leakage issues.
