Lloydminster introduces Celebrate Recreation Week

This week in the City of Lloydminster has announce Celebrate Recreation Week.

From October 25-31 the city will be hosting free activities for all ages. General Manager for Parks and Recreation, Cindy Rekimowich says Celebrate Recreation Week is about encouraging Lloydminster residents to stay active throughout the winter by taking advantage of the city’s recreational facilities.

“We just want to give back to some of our users that are using the facilities and also encourage other people to use the facilities,” Rekimowich said. “We also want to encourage people to be active through the winter months. We know it’s easy to sit on the couch, but it’s really important to be active in the winter, whether it’s inside at our facilities, or using our toboggan hills, or walking the dog, or any of those types of things outside.”

Lloydminster in Motion member Bonita Brick says her organization is also getting involved in the week.

“Lloydminster in Motion is a group of people that represent different sectors of the city, like education, the city, the health region, and some community associations, and together we work on increasing people’s levels of physical activity,” Brick said. “Anytime the city does something that is encouraging people to use city facilities, Lloyd in motion likes to get behind that and promote it, so this year we’re offering a backpack with some prizes in it… To be entered in the draw for the Backpack of Fun, you just need to take a picture of yourself or your family being active, and send it to us on Twitter @LloydinMotion.”

Free activities on offer include:

October 26 – Fitness classes and public swimming at the Leisure Centre

October 26-30 – Kid’s Fun Zone at the Servus Sports Centre
