A traffic stop in North Battleford led to eight arrests.
On Tuesday, November 26, RCMP members on patrol pulled over a car. The male driver told the officers his name but did not have proper identification. He was arrested and refused to give his name to the police. A female passenger cooperated with the officers and provided proper identification.
Items found in the car led to the police to think it was involved in drug trafficking. Information learned during the stop prompted the RCMP Battlefords Street Enforcement Team to start an investigation.
A search warrant was obtained for a residence on the 700 block of 102nd Street in North Battleford. Six adults and two youths were arrested.
During the search, a significant amount of crystal meth, cocaine, Canadian currency, prescription medications, packaging materials, several hundred rounds of ammunition, and a firearm were seized.
Three adults are facing charges and the other five people have been released from custody.
Shannon Soosay, of Samson First Nation, is faced with four charges, possession for the purpose of trafficking meth and coke, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a weapon while prohibited from doing so.
Michael Dwinnel, of North Battleford, is faced with four charges, possession for the purpose of trafficking meth and coke, possession of property obtained by crime and careless storage of a firearm.
Dennis Starchief, of North Battleford, is faced with six charges, possession for the purpose of trafficking meth and coke and breach of undertaking, times four. Starchief has previous charges against him from a previous incident in October.
The charged individuals will remain in custody to appear for their court date on Thursday, November 28, in North Battleford Provincial Court.
