Rustlers host ACAC Curling Regional this weekend

The Lakeland College Rustlers host the ACAC Curling Fall Regional for the first time in 15 years. The Rustlers will host the 20 team tournament this weekend at the Lloydminster Golf & Curling Centre.

The curling squad consists of three teams with a total of 15 Lakeland students out of the 28 that tried out. Head Coach Dusty Makichuck says the team is confident going into regionals that they will come out on top.

“It’s great to be hosting. We travel enough as it is, so it’s nice for everybody. This is the sheet that we play on so it’s more of a home advantage for us.”

Makichuk says the players have been getting a lot of playing time heading into the tournament. Some players are a part of other leagues in the province in areas such as Vermilion.

For those unfamiliar with curling, Makichuck says this is a great opportunity to see up and coming student-athletes.

“They all came here from different areas, four different provinces. There are high expectations to make the team and perform well for the team and represent Lakeland College well.”

Anyone looking to witness some collegiate curling this weekend can find the draws and schedules on the ACAC website. The draws will take place from November 29th to December 1st at the LGCC.
