Mount Joy opens this weekend

Mount Joy Snow Resort is set to open for the winter season this Saturday. Mount Joy President Ray Tatro expects a good opening weekend with the milder weather forecasted for the week.

“We’re praying for some new snow to come from the sky but our groomer is working miracles with what we have,” says Tatro. “Because of the temperature we expect to have good numbers out and we look forward to a busy weekend.”

The ski and snowboard schools will also be starting up this weekend. Tatro says not all routes will be available at the opening.

“The south side of our lift line won’t be open but north side, for the most part, will be open. There certainly will be terrain for people to utilize.”

Tatro says the resort is volunteer-run and while they have enough for the opening weekend more volunteers are appreciated as more of the hill opens during the season.

Mount Joy will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
