Lloydminster’s fallen veterans remembered

Lloydminster’s air cadets and girl guides have paid tribute to fallen veterans.

The two groups gathered at the city’s cemetery in the morning of Saturday, November 7, to lay poppies on veterans’ graves, as part of No Stone Left Alone – an initiative to honour veterans that was started in Edmonton.

Lieutenant M. T. Owens says she feels its important to honour veterans.

“Being a Canadian Forces member myself, but not being obligated to have a role in active duty, is a very important job,” Owens said. “My job is with the youth, and is with instilling citizenship and leadership working towards making our cadets and our junior citizens of Canada more aware of what has happened in previous conflicts in Canada and abroad. So, being myself in uniform, and not being obligated to serve in the way they did, is very impactful.”

With Remembrance Day tomorrow, several other ceremonies are being held in the area.

Lloydminster’s ceremony is set to be held at the Lloydminster Comprehensive High School. The service will be hosted by Lloydminster’s branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, and will take place in the J J Giesbrecht Auditorium. It will start at 10:45 a.m.

In Kitscoty, a ceremony will be held at the Legion Hall. The proceedings will start at 10:45 a.m and will be followed by a free potluck lunch.

In Wainwright, a service will be held at the Peace Memorial Multiplex. The ceremony will start just prior to 11:00 a.m.
