Lloydminster teachers to start sanctions Thursday

UPDATE: Lloydminster Public School Division has cancelled all extra-curricular and voluntary activities beginning Thursday. Buses will run as scheduled and non-teaching staff will supervise.

The Northwest School Division has also cancelled all extra-curricular activities and say bus pick-up and drop off times may change. Rural bus drivers will be contacting families directly if there are any changes.

Lloydminster teachers are joining other teachers in Saskatchewan and will be taking job action this week.

The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation announced, after 10 months of bargaining with the provincial government, they will be cutting back on certain services.

Starting Thursday, teachers will arrive at school no more than 15 minutes before the start of the school day and leave no later than 15 minutes after the end. Teachers will not provide any extra-curricular or voluntary services but will continue to supervise students during lunch and recess.

Teachers have been without a contract since August 2019 and the two sides have continued to bargain. In early February, 90 per cent of teachers voted in favour of a job action mandate in a sanctions vote.

The sanctions will remain in effect until further notice.
