Local man pledges to cut hair for cancer patients

A local man is trying to raise money for cancer using an interesting fundraiser.

Chris Mathias has been growing his hair for three years, and will be cutting it off on Sunday, November 15, at Chatters Salon. Mathias says he got the idea from his sister.

“Back in 2007, my sister raised $1,600 [by cutting her hair],” said Mathias. “I started growing out my hair, and my parents were making fun of me, saying that ‘he’s just going to cut it for cancer,’ so I decided I might as well just cut it. It’s a good donation, and I might as well. I’m just going to cut my hair and throw it away, I might as well give it away.”

Mathias says the society will take the hair once it’s been cut to make it into a wig. So far he has raised more than $2,300 through the fundraiser.
