Alberta has confirmed 96 new cases of COVID-19 with more cases at long-term and continuing care facilities.
As of April 2, the total number of cases is 968 throughout the province, with 174 people recovering from the virus.
Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw says there have been 74 cases and nine outbreaks at care homes in Alberta, including 65 in the McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre in Calgary. She also notes a fourth resident of the facility, a man in his 90s, has died.
Another death, a man in his 80s at the Manoir Du Lac seniors care home, brings the total number of deaths in the province to 13.
She says stricter measures will be coming to senior care facilities.
In the Central zone 59 cases have been found with the number of cases in Vermilion River County staying at two.
Dr. Hinshaw notes testing for the novel coronavirus has increased with more than 4,000 tests conducted in the past day. The province has completed over 57,000 tests including 5,436 in the Central zone.
