Alberta has recorded 107 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the total to 1,075 in the province.
In the April 3 provincial update, five more deaths were reported in the past 24 hours bringing the total to 18. Another four residents from the MacKenzie Towne Care Centre in Calgary have died. Eight deaths have been reported at the facility.
A woman in her 20s from the Edmonton zone has also passed away. It is not clear if she had underlying health issues.
In the Central zone, 62 cases of COVID-19 have been found with the number of cases in Vermilion River County staying at two.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw notes another 4,000 tests have been completed in the past 24 hours and the increase of cases come from a backlog of tests. She adds 196 people have recovered.
Over 60,500 tests have been completed in the province including 5,796 in the Central zone.
Bits and Pieces program
Premier Jason Kenney also announced the Bits and Pieces program calling on Albertan companies to contribute in whatever way they can to help with the pandemic.
Some examples he gave were to offer passenger and commercial vehicles, hotel rooms amd mobile trailers, hospital gowns, face masks, ventilators and other personal protective equipment. He also highlights Alberta distilleries pivoting their brewery operations and making sanitizer.
He says over the past week, more than 1,100 offers of support have come in from private and non-profit organizations.
The program is named after a Second World War program with the same name. The program coordinated innovative production and procurement efforts from across the country to support the war effort.
