Lloydminster anglers will see some rule changes if they’re fishing in Alberta this year.
The province dropped their sportfishing regulations for 2020, which came into effect on April 1st. Among notable changes are reducing the number of lakes with tagged Walleye Harvesting down to 16 from 23 last year.
President of the Lloydminster Fish and Game Association Dwayne Davison says that the new rules will mean more fishing opportunities in the area.
“My understanding is there’s going to be more lakes opened up where you can keep a fish or two, so that’s a good thing. I know the Alberta Fish and Game have been lobbying for getting that in some lakes because some lakes are back to respectable fish levels.”
Many of the new rules were created after open houses across the province. While Davison wasn’t a part of the talks this year, he believes positive impacts have come from it.
“Alberta has had their fish tag program in for quite a few years now, and they’re still continuing to do that, but there are some lakes that you will be actually able to keep a fish, and enjoy eating them.”
