162 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths in Alberta; no zone specific numbers

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw says 162 new cases and two deaths have occured in the province in the past day.

The latest deaths are a man in his 70’s in the Calgary zone and a woman in her 80’s in the North zone.

A technical issue with the reporting application has once again limited the COVID-19 data released and only preliminary information is available.

Hinshaw says they hope to have specific zone numbers tomorrow but it could be pushed into next week.

She says the province hasn’t hit the peak of the pandemic yet and encourages people to focus on their health by quitting or cutting down smoking and vaping and limiting alcohol consumption.

On April 14, the number of cases in the Central zone was at 74.

Over 85,000 tests have been completed in the province so far.
