Almost 300 new COVID-19 cases reported in Alberta, 3 new in the Central zone

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health remains steadfast in her decision to cancel all summer events saying COVID-19 will not go away in the coming months.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw says the virus spreads rapidly through social interactions and the result can be deadly.

The province recorded 297 new cases in the past 24-hours for a total of 4,017 cases in Alberta. Province-wide, 1,374 people have recovered from COVID-19.

Four new deaths were also announced with one in connection to the JBS meat plant in the South zone. A total of 72 people have died in relation to the virus in Alberta.

Three more cases were confirmed in the central zone bringing the total to 82 in the area. In the County of Vermilion River there is one active case and one recovery while there remains one active case in the MD of Wainwright. There is one recovery in Lloydminster.

Dr. Hinshaw notes low numbers in several communities are the result of collective efforts and sacrifices to prevent the spread of the disease.

Over 122,000 tests have been processed with 10,551 tests done in the Central zone.
