Saskatchewan confirms 34 new cases of COVID-19, four in North zone

Saskatchewan has confirmed dozens of new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, many tracing back to an outbreak in the Far North.

As of May 4th, there are 34 new cases, 29 of which are located in La Loche and the surrounding area. Four are in the North Zone, and one is in Saskatoon. Eleven people are in hospital, seven are receiving inpatient care (two in the North region and five in Saskatoon. Four are in intensive care, three in Saskatoon and one in the North.

Two more people have also recovered, bringing the total up to 307 of 467 reported cases. Active cases are at 154. In the North Zone, cases are 35 active and 57 recoveries.

Of the 467 cases in the province, 138 cases are travel-related, 182 are community contacts or from mass gatherings, 40 have no known exposures and 107 are under investigation by local public health.

In total, 32,334 COVID-19 tests have been performed, with 29,708 confirmed negatives.
