Northwest Territorial Days in Battlefords cancelled

The Battlefords Agricultural Society has cancelled all their summer events including the 134th Northwest Territorial Days.

Like summer events throughout the country, the event was stopped due to safety concerns involved with the COVID-19 pandemic. The society says the event has been running since 1885 with the exception of one year due to the Louis Riel rebellion. Northwest Territorial Days Exhibition and Parade was scheduled for August 14 to 17, 2020.

Organizers have also cancelled all their future summer events including the Children’s Festival, 4-H Regional Show and Sale, Community Garage Sale and all ground rentals.

In a release, the agriculture society notes they rely on all the events and rentals to stay sustainable throughout the year.

“These events are the heart and soul of our community and not being able to go ahead with them this year is very difficult. This is also very detrimental to many other service clubs and non-profit institutions in the Battlefords and surrounding areas.”

The society says they will continue to follow the Re-open Saskatchewan Plan and implement social distancing and disinfecting requirements. They thank the public, staff and volunteers for their support.
