Bump in Saskatchewan COVID-19 cases related to funeral in Far North

The Saskatchewan Health Authority is warning people about a bump in COVID-19 cases connected to a wake and funeral.

The SHA announced eighteen new COVID-19 cases in the last twenty-four hours, thirteen of which are in the Far North. Many of these cases were connected to a wake and funeral which were held on June 10th and 11th in the Clearwater River Dene Nation.

People who attended that funeral are being told to self-isolate for 14 days, and monitor for any COVID-19 symptoms. Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms should call HealthLink 8-1-1 for further direction. The province is reminding people of the importance of physical distancing and keeping gathering sizes low to help prevent COVID outbreaks.

Three other cases are in Saskatoon, and two are people visiting from other provinces, who tested positive within Saskatchewan. Those cases are under investigation.

In total, Saskatchewan numbers sit at 41 active of 683 reported. 629 people in total have recovered.
