The Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre will play host to a summer-long golf scramble with proceeds going towards several local mental health and addictions initiatives.
The Summer Scramble for Mental Health and Addictions is a partnership between Residents in Recovery Society, the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation, Harvest to Home Catering and #jaydenstory.
To take part in the event, residents can buy a $350 golf package from Residents in Recovery, LRHF, Harvest to Home Catering at the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre, Downtown Cafe or Dark Hour Ink. The package includes two 18-hole golf passes to the golf course for use at any time, a cart rental, two $25 food and beverage gift card, a player gift package and a $150 charitable tax receipt.
All package purchases will go towards Residents in Recovery, Project Sunrise and #jaydenstory.
Residents in Recovery Executive Director Tyler Lorenz says he was approached by LRHF CEO Malcolm Radke about the idea as a replacement for their annual golf tournament fundraiser.
“We originally thought to get it going for July and August, but getting everything organized takes a little bit longer these days.”
“We wanted to give a good two month period for people to take advantage of it. Hopefully, we can golf into the end of September, but it is all subject to weather as it was at the beginning of the year,” he adds.
On top of the packages, participants can also hand in their scorecards at the end of their round to be entered in to win more prizes.
There will also be a silent auction in the clubhouse with pictures of the items up for auction. New items will be added over the weeks and those interested can text their bid to a phone number attached to the items. Lorenz says the texting portion is in place as way to reduce the number of touchpoints.
Throughout the summer, sponsors will be on location for special event days for more games and prizes. Lorenz hopes to have a banquet at the end of the event which is also subject to change depending on the health guidelines in place at the time.
Residents in Recovery will also be running a Chase the Ace raffle with $5 tickets available at the same locations. Draws will be made on Saturdays and Wednesdays with the first draw on July 18.
Lorenz says the organization has been keeping busy as the continue receiving more requests for their services. He adds they are staying afloat financially as they received some COVID relief funding.
“Things are getting us through the summer and this fundraiser on top of that will definitely help sustain us until the end of the year.”
The scramble kicked off on July 15th and will run until September 19th.
