A six-week turnaround at the Husky Upgrader is set to start in early-September.
Lloydminster residents should expect to see increased traffic around the site as over 3,000 workers will be performing maintenance duties during the peak of the work.
There may also be increased noise and odour levels during the shutdown and start-up stages. Flaring at the site will be visible as hydrocarbons are safely removed from the units. Flaring is a regulated measure to safely burn off excess product or materials at the facility.
Multiple COVID-19 precautions and protocols will be in place at the site in order to keep workers safe. A temperature check will be done before they get on site, staggered breaks will be implemented and shifts will be changed to limit potential interaction between workers. Masks will also be required in areas where a 2 metre distance can’t be maintained.
Husky Energy says they are following the advice of health authorities and any potential exposure will be assessed and handled following their direction.
