SPCA offering name your price adoption event next week

The Lloydminster and District SPCA annual cat and kitten adoption event will be a little different this year.

Community Outreach Manager Becca Lawrence says normally they would hold a “Clear our Shelter” event along with other humane societies across Saskatchewan, but this year they’re going with a new theme.

“We were finding that a lot of people were choosing not to participate this year so we went in a different route this year. We did some research on other events that other shelters were trying and we found the name your price cat and kitten adoption event.”

Lloydminster residents will have to pay for a city license and all cats and kittens are spayed, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and dewormed. Individuals will also have to go through a questionnaire to ensure the felines will be headed to a permanent home.

Lawrence says their shelter is nearly full with cats as well as other animals.

“We help a rescue and they’re overrun right now so we do try and take as many rabbits as we can. This Saturday we might be taking in a few, less than we had originally planned because we also had an influx of guinea pigs as well this past week.”

Lawrence asks anyone who has a rabbit cages to donate them to the SPCA as theirs are starting to wear out. She says they would also welcome any cat food as well.

Due to their current COVID guidelines, all showings and adoptions will be done by appointment. Anyone interested in adopting can call the SPCA at 780-875-2809. The adoption event starts on August 24th and ends on August 29th.
