Colleen Young opens campaign office ahead of Saskatchewan election

Incumbent MLA Colleen Young of the Saskatchewan Party is pushing her campaign forward and has opened a campaign office at 2911-50 Avenue.

Following the dissolving of the legislature on September 29th, provincial politicians are back on the campaign trail and reaching out to voters. Young says she’s been travelling to communities in the constituency as well as making phone calls to hear the concerns of voters.

“I started back in July, but I am now more in full gear and the response I’ve been getting at the doors has been very positive. People are very positive of having a conversation with me and sometimes it’s between the door and myself and that’s okay.”

Young says her conversations with constituents primarily revolves around the economy and how the province will recover. She mentions party leader Scott Moe has a plan which aims to create a balanced budget by 2024 and create 100,000 new jobs in the province by 2030.

“We’re hoping our resource sector will be stronger as we move forward. We’ve created a lot of opportunities for business investment in some of the larger areas such as mining and forestry. We want to keep that growing and work hard to deregulate and support them in their industries.”

She says Moe will be releasing more details on his full platform “in the next short while.” As for the residents of Lloydminster, Young wants to continue collaborating with ministers in Alberta to address issues in the city.

“Healthcare, for one of them, but as you saw we had an announcement with both of our high schools and I’m going to encourage more of that. I think that will be the benefit for Lloydminster if we could work more with our Alberta partners to get things for Lloydminster.”

Young is running against Colleen Henning of the New Democratic Party and Steve Gessner with the Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan this fall. Voters will head to the polls on October 26th.
