The Bordertown H.O.G Chapter says despite some challenges for this year’s Toy Run, they were still able to show some support for local charities.
The motorcycle group had labelled this year “Year 9 1/2” of the charity ride, had several changes in place due to COVID-19 restrictions. Parts of the event like the breakfast, dinner and Caberet party were cancelled. Riders drove up, provided their entry fee, which was donated to local charities. They then rode off on their own routes, which went where they saw fit.
Despite the restrictions, Toy Run Co-Chair Murray Getty says they still had several riders come out to support the causes.
“Overall this year, I guess the Toy Run went better than we all expected. We had a decent turn out considering the day. We had about 50 riders come out, and we were happy that people still came out and supported the toy run, even though it was a COVID year, and kind of an average day overall.”
In total, Getty says, $7,405 was raised for KidsSport Lloydminster, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lloydminster, The Lloydminster Youth Centre and the Goat’s Christmas Wish. Getty says that the riders were very understanding of the restrictions, and still wanted to support the Lloydminster community.
“It goes to show that people do still want to support the toy run, and support youth initiatives in Lloydminster, and we’re going to continue to carry on with that, and we’re looking forward to a back to normal toy run in 2021.”
The Bordertown H.O.G Chapter have a date planned for the next year’s run, with the tenth anniversary looking to be held on September 11th, 2021.
