Lloydminster farmers are nearly done harvesting for the year.
In the Lloydminster-Meadow Lake-Pierceland district, around 88 per cent of total crops are combined. Meanwhile in the Battleford-Shellbrook district, a total of 95 per cent of crops are combined.
About 91 per cent of crops are in the bin in the northwest region of Saskatchewan and another 8 per cent are swathed or ready to straight-cut. It is ahead of the five-year average of 59 per cent for this time of year. One hundred per cent of field peas, 95 per cent of barley, 94 per cent of spring wheat, 86 per cent of canola, 78 per cent of flax and 69 per cent of oats in the region are combined.
Across the province, a total of 96 per cent of crops are combined which is up from 89 per cent last week. It is ahead of the five-year average of 76 per cent for this time of year.
Yield estimates are around average in the northwest, but there are some reports of reductions due to earlier drowned out low spots, heat stress and lack of moisture in some areas.
Small showers and damp conditions were noted in some areas which meant some combining was delayed, but has since continued. There was a minimal amount of rain in the region with Prince Albert receiving the most at five millimetres.
Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 57 per cent adequate, 32 per cent short and 11 per cent very short. Hay and pasture land topsoil moisture is rated as 44 per cent adequate, 42 per cent short and 14 per cent very short.
A majority of crop damage came from windy conditions, wildlife and frost over the past week. Farmers will continue combining, harrowing and moving bales.
