City warning people to stay off ice at retention lakes, ponds

As winter fast approaches again, the City is reminding people to stay off ice at retention lakes.

The thickness and solidity of ice on these lakes can fluctuate very quickly due to variable temperatures. The City says people should watch for and obey all of these signs for their safety. They should also take extra precautions to keep their kids or pets a safe distance away from the retention lakes, ponds or other potentially unsafe bodies of water.

Residents are advised to instead use the City’s many ice surfaces for skating, which they plan to announce an opening date for soon.
