Onion Lake Cree Nation extends lockdown until December 4th

The Onion Lake Cree Nation is extending it’s COVID-19 related lockdown until December 4th.

In information posted online by Onion Lake Chief and Council, the Cree Nation said checkpoints at their borders would be ongoing until that date, extending the original lockdown started on November 7th. These checkpoints will continue to monitor all allowed comings and goings from the Onion Lake Cree Nation.

Onion Lake Health is also reminding residents of some ongoing restrictions and guidelines to follow. The same as the rest of Saskatchewan, gatherings are limited to five people for all indoor private events. This includes, they explain, worship events, family gatherings or social gatherings.

Loitering in public spaces is also not encouraged right now, and people are advised to continue physical distancing of six feet when out in public getting groceries or supplies.

The OLCN is also saying that anyone who is showing signs of illness and has recently travelled to hot spots like Prince Albert, Edmonton or Saskatoon, for example, should contact Onion Lake Health Clinic for assessment by the pandemic team. These people should go home first, and then call them for the next steps.

Any resident who believes they have been in contact with a positive COVID-19 case can contact the clinic for assessment and testing information as well.

OLCN adds that there could be legal consequences for people who chose not to follow their mandatory self-isolation orders, and their security and RCMP are authorized to ensure the Saskatchewan public health order is being followed in Onion Lake.
