Lakeland College confirms another COVID-19 case, announces changes to rec facilities

Lakeland College says they have confirmed another COVID-19 case, and have made some changes for their recreation facilities.

The positive diagnosis was confirmed November 29th in a student on the Lloydminster campus. The student was last on campus on November 24th. The Saskatchewan Health Authority has contacted the people who were close contacts with this person and provided instructions to them.

In response to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions from the Government of Alberta, there have been changes to recreation facilities.  The Lakeland Rustlers curling teams will not train or compete at all. At the Vermilion Rec Centre, all group fitness or aquafit classes are cancelled, and all previously approved sports cohorts are suspended.

At the Equine Centre, Lakeland College’s Rodeo Team will not practice and the facility will only be used for academic programs, with all other rides cancelled.

What has not changed, however, is the start date of the winter semester, with students set to return to physical classes where applicable on Tuesday, January 5th. Neither government has announced a change for these start dates.

The total case number is now at three active confirmed COVID-19 cases among students and employees.
