Holy Rosary student heading to top 15 international film school

Mackenzie DeCrescenzo has got into her dream school.

DeCrescenzo was accepted to the Vancouver Film School which is considered to be one of the top 15 international film school of 2020 by The Hollywood Reporter.

“I was surprised. I worked really hard to get there so the moment when I received the notice that I was accepted, it was a really big moment and I was really proud of myself.”

She is proven in her video production skills as she won a gold medal at the 2020 Skills Alberta competition. This year, organizers made it a virtual event. Competitors had two weeks to create a two and a half minute video based on the topic of the pandemic and how the world will be different post-pandemic.

“Mine was a music video about what life after COVID would be like. What I did was I duplicated myself into multiple versions so it wasn’t just me on camera there were more than one so it seems more lively.”

DeCrescenzo thanks her skills coach Skye Ferguson in helping make her video shine among the rest of the competition.

“She really taught me the whole process of how to make a video and make it stand out and look good. I owe a lot to her.”

DeCrescenzo says she wants to focus more on directing, cinematography and production once she graduates and enters the post-secondary. The Reporter notes the schools shift to a hybrid education model and being able to put industry grade equipment into the hands of students learning remotely was a pivotal move during the pandemic.
